We are running NW 6.2 in an NT/2000 environment, with a Spectralogic 64000 tape library. We have had numerous problems with the bus reset and have replaced everything frim tape drives, scsi cards, scsi cables, onto updating all drivers as well/ We get this msg in the log files:

08/16/02 01:43:24 AM nsrd: srvmail2:SYSTEM STATE:\ saving to pool 'Full' (Full.1164)
08/16/02 01:49:25 AM nsrd: media warning: \\.\Tape2 writing: The semaphore timeout period has expired., at file 73 record 1
08/16/02 01:49:25 AM nsrd: media notice: 8mm AIT-2 tape Full.1164 on \\.\Tape2 is full
08/16/02 01:49:25 AM nsrd: media notice: 8mm AIT-2 tape Full.1164 used 26 GB of 50 GB capacity
08/16/02 01:49:28 AM nsrmmd #14: tape_open GetTapeStatus failed: The device is not connected. (268436623)
08/16/02 01:49:28 AM nsrd: media warning: \\.\Tape3 writing: async write: The I/O bus was reset.
08/16/02 01:49:34 AM nsrd: media emergency: write open error: The device is not connected.
08/16/02 01:49:34 AM nsrd: write completion notice: Writing to volume Full.1164 complete

then tapes get marked full when they are not and close down. It is very frustrating. Has anyone seen any of these messages or have any ideas. I did look through the archives but go no real solutions.

thanks,
Sharon

Hi Sharon !

Is your Jukebox a LVD or SE Device ? If it is a Single
Ended device the Bus-Length is limited to 3 metres
including internal cabling of the Jukebox (!!!).
I have had the same problem with a Overland-Jukebox and
using shorter cables has solved the problem.

Till

Wjat types of device are they? If they are different, it could be a driver conflict.

We have a spectralogic 64000 tape library with QIP (quad interface processors) these connect the library to the host using a scsi connector and we have a fibre qip also which we have not started using yet. There are 8 tape drives, and 2 servers, one main networker server, and another that is a storage node. There is one scsi card for each 2 tape drives. We have replaced the cables and they are very short, I believe less than 2 feet.

If confirmed there isn't any SCSI problem :

1. Check to disable the RSM service.
2. Check to disable the "Media Changer" in Device Manager.

Legato Tech support recommend to uninstall the "Media Changer", but after system reboot, the Plug & Play will re-install back the driver.
