Hi All

Does anyone know why this message comes up after I have re-set the database location, then propagated the new location across the sub reports and then click on the save button??

What is the handle exactly?, I'm using crystal 8.5 and can't see any mention of it in the help file.

How do I resolve this, as I believe it's preventing the sub reports working in an external application that using crystal reports?

Many Thanks

Alie

What type of database, what version of crystal, etc.? Also, I suspect you have not posted the entire error message, word for word. If I am corect please do so.

The error message was simply what I showed in the title header - 'The handle is Invalid', and I'm using crystal 8.5. I'm using an sql database.

Apparantly looking at the Business Object's online help, this is a problem with crystal 8.5 on windows XP, and setting the 'compatibility mode' to 'Winbdows 2000' removes this.

However, what is the handle?

The handle being referred to is the file handle; i.e. the filename, directory, and volume syntax.

Crystal is complaining because one or more of these things is no longer recognisable, because the file has become corrupt, or because there has been a change to the handle.

If saving as a new file, or applying a BO patch doesn't remedy the situation, I'm afraid you may have to create a new file, and drag and drop your existing report canvas onto the new one, and save as a new file.

Can you tell me where to set the compatibility mode? My pc was just upgraded to windows xp, and in the first five minutes I encountered your error in addition to these:
- a table selected in the report expert is "un-selected" (disappears) as soon as you close that window. Not limited to certain data sources.(You can successfully select a data source by bypassing the report expert.)
- help won't launch. The message is "Failed to Launch Help" (Discovered this when trying to find how to set compatibility mode.
- the "Create folder" icon in the save dialog is non functional. No message, just doesn't do anything.
Thanks!

Find CRW32.exe > right click > Properties > Compatablity tab.
