My boss has recently asked the question, "If we migrate to C# will it still be a viable language in five years?"

Can anyone point to resources, articles, or relatively unbiased opinions that address that question? He comes from a C++ background and wants to make sure that whatever we move to will have the same staying power.

I have done some research, but can't find what I'm looking for. Any thoughts or suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks,

I've been reading a lot about this Longhorn SDK superceding the .NET framework for Longhorn development. .NET applications will still work apparently. C# will be a major player in the Longhorn SDK. They are saying the learning curve will be pretty steep. Longhorn SDK is said to bridge the gap between Windows and Web apps for .NET, allowing a project/solution to be built for both environments. There is also the heavy use of XAML.

Of course Longhorn won't be around until sometime in 2006. What concerns me is that Microsoft is changing things around so much that I almost feel like heading towards open source.
