Hello all;
I'm trying to save a flash file to my tftp server ( my pc )
I can't and I know I'm missing some settings somewhere.
Help is much apreciated;
I included an output copied from my terminal window;

3640_1>enable
Password:
3640_1#copy flash: tftp

System flash directory:
File Length Name/status
1 3867144 c3640-ds-mz.112-16.P
2 6313416 c3640-i-mz.122-34.bin
[10180688 bytes used, 6596528 available, 16777216 total]
Address or name of remote host [192.168.0.199]?
Source file name? c3640-ds-mz.112-16.P
Destination file name [c3640-ds-mz.112-16.P]?
Verifying checksum for 'c3640-ds-mz.112-16.P' (file # 1)... OK
Copy 'c3640-ds-mz.112-16.P' from Flash to server
as 'c3640-ds-mz.112-16.P'? [yes/no]yes
TFTP to 192.168.0.199 failed/aborted

Vince; read my friend; the access server is connected via ethernet; only the access server; does that means that for me to be able to transfer that file from the 3640 to my pc I have to set its ethernet interface?
My understanding is since i can comunicate with the access server and see all in my windows pc via telnet, i could transfer files via tftp right? read the previous posts see if you can see what I can't see..

TFTP is an IP protocol, as is ICMP (ping).
They both run on an ethernet network.
If you have no ethernet connection to your router you cannot use ethernet-dependent protocols between your router and your PC.

ok in that case I will try to set an interface on the 3540 to the switch system in my rack which are linked via ethernet to my home router and pc and see if this works.
I can't still ping from windows CMD anything; it says "ping is not a recognized command" this is the first time I see something like this

pctech,

first off... the access server is a means to have a console connection to your routers, so not matter how hard you try you will never be able to ping from the "routers" to the "pc". ever. what i would recommend is taking a cross connect cable and connecting one of your ethernet ports on your routers and plug into your PC. set up a static IP on that ethernet connection and a static ip on your PC that are in the same IP subnet;

192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2

As for your PC not being able to ping;

start
search: cmd
open cmd
type: ping 192.168.1.1

that is by far the quickest/simplest way to upload/download IOS and configs if you are wanting to keep your lab equipment off of your home network.

NOW, if you want to be able to see all of your lab routers not only from the access server(console port) but from an IP standpoint you might want to take a 2nd ethernet connection on one of your routers and set your home network up on it.

Yesterday I stumble upon the solution; Thanks to Vince and Dallas.
I do have a connection from my home router to my lab via ethernet. The cable was connected to the AUI of the 2511RJ (access Server) and this is connected to the switches serial to serial on router 2 to router 3 and from there aui ethernet to switch!
I tried connecting the ethernet cable to port 1 of switch 3 and connecting all routers to that switch via ethernet; set the switch ip address/ default gateway to same subnet and now everybody sees everybody and so far I have saved 5 devices IOS and config files to my tftp!
However ping still doesn't work from the CMD prompt on my pcnor works ipconfig, arp, or any command I type there.
Never seen something like it, I wonder what I did to have this wonderful windows behavior; my pc really wishes for me to become an administrator!
Any help on second issue; just going to start run cmd type doesn't work; read previous posts
Thanks

you do not have admin rights to your own windows machine?

depending on what rights your acount has, i could see this happening. sorry, but i do think that most tech's on here automatically think that everyone else should have admin rights on their personal machines. give yourself admin rights and see if problem continues?

problem is the same I'm the only administrator to my machine; I builded it and installed the copy of windows vista ultimate that I bought half price sealed; I never had this problem and I was able to ping last time i used this feature not so long ago; i have done nothing relevant to the system that I'm aware of and have this problem now.
i'm a little lost when it comes to vista; I have not study this Os much.
This system was assembled in Oct last year; other than this little thing now it is a killer machine as far as everything
I builded as an example for my then A+ class and won the class best machine award
Who knows how it got to not let me ping!!
These things develope a mind of their own! lol

very interesting... have my vista ult. right here next to me and do not have that issue what so ever.

just noticed that in the top left corner of the CMD box it states that I am running it in admin mode. what does yoru say?

I got help almost from that thread;
I kind of know why it is not working (the ping command) but having hard time finding the right thing to do to fix it; I can ping from windowsystem32\cmd.exe but still can't from the prompt. I'm the admin and checked the paths in Env. Variables in advance system settings tab; even pointed to that folder/program and still nothing; Got to love it!

so what error message do you receive when you attempt to ping?? anything in your eventlog??

I hate all Uppercase... I don't want my groups to seem angry at me all the time! =)

That's a bit obscure for me, Burtsbees....

Basically, if it was me and for some reason I couldn't get the paths in the environment variables to work, I would spend the 60 seconds it takes to do this:
- (Use Windows "Search" and find ping.exe if necessary)
- create the file ping.bat
- in there put in the text "c:\winnt\system32\ping.exe" (eg)

In fact I do this anyway - I think it's way too much trouble to type out big long words like "ping", "tracert", "ipconfig /all", "services.msc", "appwiz.cpl" etc... so I create files in the root of C called
p.bat
t.bat
i.bat
s.bat
a.bat
...

Read the very first post...

3640_1#copy flash: tftp

There is no :

Just

router#copy flash tftp
