Hello

Where can I find examples on how to use Methods related to this control (you know, the "mouthy" one)? eg. "Gender" - I'm trying to get a female voice, but all I get is a very cryptic message "Gender (Index String) as Long" or something similar every time I try to guess at the code. In the control's properties, there appears to be no Gender option. Anyway, at present I'm struggling on with my poor lady having a very macho voice.

Should it be important, I'm using VB5, and I've downloaded and installed spchapi.exe followed by msstt22l.exe. Thus far, this has enabled me to convert text to speech via lines like TextToSpeech.Speak "whatever", but I have been unable to tweak the voice itself at all.

Cheers
Mike

...And YES I did check the FAQs first

Hi
Where did you get the files necessary?
Are they some sort of ActiveX control?

Hi Ted

I downloaded them from Microsoft's Download pages (did a search under "Speech"). I don't have the exact page to hand, but it was SAPI 5.0 or something similar. There were several options available and some awfully big files to download. I downloaded the two smallest as I'd understood these were the bare minimum that I needed.

I have no idea if they are ActiveX, ActiveY or ActiveZ as I'm afraid I have never understood this term. That gives you an idea of the level of my programming ability!

Best wishes
Mike
