I have Quarkxpress 4.1, usually it works fine but for some reason it wont print the text on the document I'm working on at the moment, it's printing the pictures ok just missing out the text. Is there a reason for this? How can I adjust it?

Thanks for replying, but no the supress printout isn't ticked, Is there any other reason?

it's Century Gothic - True Type font

and I've just noticed that it will print another font - so just out of interest, why doesn't it like Century Gothic?

Thankyou for pointing that out

Corrupt font. Check with whatever font management utility you use to see if the font is damaged in some way. Went through something similar a few years ago. Took everything off the page in little batches to find out it was just a bad font!

After more testing, the text will print on the <strong>first page only</strong> what ever font is being used all the other pages still wont print the text no matter which font it is. So I'm back to square 1 it seems odd that the first page will print the text but none of the others.
?
Thankyou for your answers

What happens when you print, say, page 10 by it self?

What happens when you make a PDF? By creating a Postscript then distilling it. and also by exporting to PDF?

Have you tried replacing Century Gothic, making sure it's not part of the job, anywhere?

I've worked it out - Quark doesn't seem to like it when i put 3 pages in a row, It only seems to cope as long as my page layouts are no more than double page spreads, as soon as I start adding extra pages on the row in the document layout box it stops printing the text - you may have assumed that I knew this but I didn't, so thanks for your helpful replies but it seems to be just me not knowing Quark

Don't feel bad...

I didn't know that would happen either. I only work in double and single page spreads, anything fancier than that, tends to be done in InDesign.

I'm just going to test my Quark to if it's just you, everyones...

Sorry to tell you, but, it seems to be you quark. I'm printed fine.
What printer are you printing to?

Marcus

there doesn't seem to be an option in the save menu to make a PDF from my Quark - Is that what you meant? Am I looking in the right place,.... I can make an eps

No I don't seem to have either of those options -it is quite an old version, sorry

Marcus: He's using Q4.1. He'll need Distiller

Using OSX 10.3.8 on a G4

Oh yeah, sorry..
File>Print
Under where it says PPD, do you have something called Adobe PDF?

Instead of printing to a printer you change the dropdown menu to read file

[bare with me I'm running off memory today]

I'm on a PC - but if I go File>Print I get an option in the printer box for Distiller. If I then go Properties it takes me the Acrobat Distiller Document Properties, There's a drop down box called conversion settings which gives me 'ebook', 'emi' 'press', 'print' 'screen', am I on the right track?

yes, choose Press.
then make sure everything in the quark print menu is ok ie paper size etc.
So... when you hit print it should come up with another window telling you where you want it to save to...choose a location and click ok
