I'm sure there's a very simple explanation for this, but at the moment it's driving me absolutely NUTS.

Every time I attempt to put text in an image in Photoshop 5.0 LE, the default size setting is 113. If I attempt to change it, I get the following snippy message:

If I use 113 or any of the other values they suggest, the font either comes up EXTREMELY HUGE or REALLY TINY. The actual size of the font doesn't seem to have any correlation to the size of the number I choose.

I just installed the exact same software on a different computer, and I don't have this problem. Since the one I'm having these issues with is installed on a computer that frequently spazzes, crashes, dies, or has an emotional breakdown, I'm beginning to suspect that the problem has nothing to do with photoshop at all.

Anyone? Clues?

I don't have a clue but I would start by eliminating the obvious.

Was this working ok in the past?

Have you tried re-installing PS?

Whats different between the two computers you mentioned?

Have you tested for virus?

Is the "bad" copmputer using the same OS as the good computer and are they both on the same OS update schedule?

Does this happen ONLY with the font I see on your link or all fonts?

Etc...Etc.

Yes, I have reinstalled PS, and it makes no difference. The computer on which it works properly runs Windows 2000 Pro, and this one runs Windows XP Home. The strangeness occurs with all fonts. PS worked fine in the past, and I have had this problem before, but it seemed to dissapear of its own accord after a few months of relative inactivity.

I scan regularly for viruses, but I have had one before on this machine that was not found in a scan (but it's been thoroughly cleaned out since then). The presence of the virus that time had no correlation to any strange happenings in PS.

Have yoy tries resetting PS preferences (see SPYDERIX FAQ faq229-2082)

Do the fonts have problems with other programs (like MSWord etc.)?

I have rest the prefs, and it had no effect. And no, I'm not having font problems in any other programs.

Hmmm I don't have Photoshop 5.0 LE anymore so I'm having difficulty trying to discover what your problem is.

I'm hoping someone else chimes in with a fix.

I'll keep looking.

What units are you using? Does the problem persist when you change the Units & Rulers preference (Type) to a different unit?

Another thing to look at might be the image size. Is the resolution some extreme value, like 2 dpi or 20000 dpi?

How many active fonts on the troublesome machine?
