A newspaper that I am helping convert to In Design charges for legal ads by the column line. Currently they manually do this with a ruler. Is there a way within InDesign (or automator perhaps) to get a line count?
Thanks so much!

You can get number of lines by selecting the text frame or individual text and checking in the Info palette. It shows lines, characters, words and paragraphs. If you want measurements (how many inches), look in the Story Editor...the measurements is only in the CS2 Story Editor, though.

All right! That's a start.
Now, if I could find a way to automate this so that I could get the line count for each text box and display/print the results, I'd really be in business. As it is, someone technical, or at least with access to the InDesign document, will have to get this count for each text box (there will be over 50 of them each week) and get those totals into a format usable for billing. Still sounds pretty manual, doesn't it?
It ain't going to be me. At least not for long.

It ain't going to be me.
Ha!

There might be a script or a plug-in available...you can check adobe's site, or I like the PowerXchange: powerxchange.com (I think). Also try a Google search on InDesign Plug-ins automate word count or something like that. Good luck!

If they show the rulers and the document grid the column inch measurements is there to see.
