Hello All,

New here. I have been testing Windows, Mac, and Web apps for 14+ years. Not all that familiar with RPG or even what an app may look like. I have been talking with a company that uses RPG (IBM) in their Wharehouses for various inventory and other apps (not a lot of details).

Just wondering if anybodys knows of some Testing resource geared to RPG, or tips of things to be aware of when testing.

~Thanks, Jim (a.k.a. InsaneTester)

Hey Insane,

Welcome to the forum! Not sure what you are asking exactly. I assume that the shop has iSeries or mainframe platform. I'm an iSeries guy. Most iSeries shops use LPAR's and/or *TEST type of libraries for testing and development. I know a little (very little) about Windows and Web apps. I know NOTHING of Mac. If you know NOTHING about iSeries then what I told you about LPAR and *TEST libraries means very little to you. :)

If you can be a little more specific, we might be able to help more...

If you're talking iseries RPG program testing (which I assume you are) you should learn to use the interactive debugger.

For RPGLE programs use the command STRDBG, for RPG & CL use STRISDB.

The programs are very similar (Except that one is in glorious technicolour and, frustratingly, the function keys are different - you'll soon get used to the differences between the two)and make program testing a breeze. Just walk through the code, line by line, and examine (and even change) variables as you go.

Cheers,

Test bench from Original Software Group will test both AS400 apps and PC type apps- web and the like.

I don't consider STRISDB or STRDBG to be testing tools.
