Dear all,

I am a HP-UX System Administrator and I am very new to this HP OpenView..

Now my mgmt would like to me prepare some test cases and test HP-OpenView for standard/functionality/security..

I would really appreciate if anyone can point me out a link from where I can get some info or download some PDFs on testing HP-Openview installation for Functionality/Standard and for Security.

Effectively I need some test cases/plans/procedures for HP-OpenView.

This is really urgent and I am looking forward to hear from U people very soon

Thanks in Advance

Sundar.

Sundar,

As you know, OpenView monitors many different kinds of hardware/software and can be configured to take different actions when detecting different failures -- So I'm not sure that any *standard* test plan will meet your needs.

To build a test plan:

For each type of hardware/software that you are monitoring with OV:
List each type of failure that you need to manage:
Record what output is *expected* for type of failure.
Simulate or force each type of failure.

Then - compare the expected output with the actual output.

I don't know of any short cut for you I'm afraid - you just have to carefully work through each test case; and chances are you'll still miss some. Mike

Mike,

First of all thanks a lot for UR time ..

I also thought in this way only..

But then thing is like ..the team which has built the infrastructure are not giving me the build docs for Openview..

That is what the problem is :))

Anyways..That is not an issue that U can help me out..

Say if OV is monitoring Routers, if I switch off the router then OV will raise an alert or what ?

I have two more queries for U

* Can OV forward alerts to BMC Patrol

* or can OV monitor Cisco IDS

Pls do reply

Thanks

Sundar

"... if OV is monitoring Routers, if I switch off the router ...."

Looks like that is what you will have to do....

Forwarding Alerts: Yes - you can do pretty much what you want to. If the BMC server is running as an OVO (ITO) managed node you can run jobs on there as an automatic action triggered by events in the ordinary way. The automatic action would have to call whatever it is that BMS uses to insert events...

CISCO Monitoring: Again, yes. SNMP monitoring, both polling and traps. Mike

Hi Sundar,

I'm happy to chat on MSN or ICQ from time to time. (I added you) We should, though, bear in mind that others will read material here - so it won't just benefit ourselves when we discuss things here. Mike
