We have an Option 61 with 2216 telephones using MCA adapters for a CTI link to a software application. Does anybody know of a software I can download to allow testing of the CTI link with my laptop? I have seen references to a Nortel TAPI test tool, however, I can't find it.

Thanks,

I would be interested in the answer to this, as well. I have 78 of them between 2 sites.

You can use Hyperterminal, 9600, 8, 1, and none to communicate, but because it's a Nortel Proprietary API, the easiest way would be use a good one recording the data on Hyperterminal per keystroke made on the 2216. This will at least provide you the opportunity to test other MCA adapters, but if you're looking for more like trying to develop an API yourself then good luck, that will be a lot of keystrokes.

Thanks for the info. That would at least let me know that the MCA adapater was functioning on the telephone.

Thanks again.

rthardy,
The best way to start is once you feel you're connected, from the set go off-hook or dial a digit from the key pad. You'll get a down and an up stroke. The characters may appear strange, because some may be unprintable type characters, but once you record various ones you should be able to use that to test another MCA adapter.

Win 7 doesn't usually come with any comm tools like Hyperterminal so you may have to download one or use a laptop with XP.

A few others tips on dertermining if the MCA adapter appears to be working, the red LED in the back should be blinking fast and consistant. Double type flashes are an indication of a problem. Also, if you press the program key, then using the volume up button below the dial pad, the programming feature will count up through 9, then jump to 20 and continue on. If it stops at 9 then the adapter isn't functioning correctly. There are a few different versions with different types of power, some requiring a separate power board. You may want to review that information as well.

Good luck.

That should be sufficient for what I need to do.

Thanks again for your help.
