G3Rv7...Here's what's happening. I have a LOT of phones dropping out of service. Testing the station gives me a test# 48 abort with error code 1004 (tests 35 and 36 both pass). Busy/Release doesn't bring them back online but having the user disconnect from the jack and reconnect after a minute does....sometimes. Sometimes after the physical disconnect/reconnect the extension in question will drop back out of service if a call is made to it. Now, all of this didn't start happening until a day after I did a test-alarms-clear command to get rid of all of the In Service warnings I had on my display-alarms screen. This is annoying me (not to mention the customer). Any suggestions?

Are all the phones on the same card? If not are the in the same shelf? Is there anything in common between the sets?

Thanks

I have the same problem on different extensions on different cards in different EPN's all over camp. The only common denominator is that a test of each bad extension gives me a fail 48 with abort code 1004.

To make things even more interesting, I have a few extensions that give me the same test # 48 abort code of 1004 but they work just fine. All extensions in question are analog. So far, I've just been reassigning new ports and that's been working. I have a hard time accepting this many ports (about 15 so far) all on different cards/carriers/cabinets going bad for no reason.

just a hunch.. are all those analog stations set for 'Test' to 'y'? I had heard one time to make analog stations 'n' for 'Test' on the first page of 'cha sta XXXXX'. That may have been just for faxes and modems.

Are the sets connected to the ports Avaya Phones? If not the system is testing and the non Avaya sets do't know how to respond. This may also explain the failure of the tests. If the phones are Avaya are they defined correctly in the set type field. The system is testing an 8411 but the set is a 7407 ETC.

Just thinking out loud

when in doubt, busy reset and release the cards involved(which will drop all calls on that card) then if that doesn't fix it do a reset system 4 and that will bring the whole system down and reload everything and that fixes most goffy things happening. Course, in a rare happening, it doesn't come back up, then you're toast.

I haven't tried busying out the boards yet. That'll be next. I'm not sure if the sets that are going bad are lucent/avaya types either. I'll have to go out and look.

Busying the boards did the trick. Here's a tip. When trying to clear in service analog line warning alarms (test-alarms-clear) allow the process to carry on until completion. Do not cancel it in the middle of the action. If you do and lines start to go out, busy and release the boards of the problem extensions. (if you didn't already know this).

Also some analog boards don't come back in service after a power outage or reset system 4. But a busy reset release brings them back. Sometimes a audix not working is fixed by this.
