Greetings,
Doing some R&D for my company.
Any recomendations on hte best way tofrya motherboard & Hard Drive?

Thanks,
Jack

season well and use some good quality olive oil.

That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

remember to keep the pan hot throughout and if its a free range motherboard, wash it thoroughly beforehand. for best results, marinade the hard disk in habanero chili sauce for 24 hours, this gives the platters an extra kick.

SmilinJack,

On the bit more serious side:

Mobo's and HD's.....I take it your co is not the manufacturer.

Do you have an option on what mobo to purchase? as there are several boards in the market place that are red in color while not all the components, the base board is.

Outside of that I see no solution for the mobo owing to not being electrically inclined, not sure you could paint it (heat disapation & the like).

The HD: Some of the HD's are encased in bare Aluminum while others are painted(usually) black i.e. some WD drives. If you can obtain one of the all aluminum color drives (all but the PC board side) you could most likely apply red translucent (candy) color.

If you are looking at a high volume a mfg might be persuaded to private label a run of covers that could be anodized red. You could also crack them open(warranty viod) in a ultra clean environ and have the covers anodized or better yet get just the covers and anodize and have the drive mfg install them. They have service centers that could do this and have clean rooms.

Cost might be a factor. Depending on the market "POP" you might anticipate could be worth it. Oh, if the volume is right this could also be pitched to a particular mobo mfg. (using red PC board stock)

Hope This Helps

Smilinjack,
Do U mean you want to destroy motherboard and hard disk or at least the data on the hard disk. Or do U want Red hard disks & motherboard as rvnguy has interpreted your question?

Ask a stupid question U get stupid answers.

tekuser999,

Good catch there. As i read this now and remove the un-processed TGML it does read

Now I am supposing that he does not want to just take a torch to it. Rather to stress it to failure. The problem that I see here is that the CPU will cook probably way in advance of the mobo.

On the HD side, heat will advance its failure and providing some type of insulated container to run it till death would be the mode.

[q]SmilinJack can you provide a bit more on the parameters that you a constrained by?[/q]

i.e.
Under normal operational conditions
Accelerated conditions to force failure
Or?

I guess one could interpret this as a malicious act if you read the Thread header Termination followed by the inital thread content Any recomendations on the best way to fry a motherboard & Hard Drive?.

Or am I the only one to read it this way?

Freestone,

Nope, didn't catch it the first time. second or third.

I normally do not look for hidden meanings. I check the problem at face value or at least try to.

Maybe I should be more cynical about posters.

Who knows? It could be a disgruntled soon to be laid-off employee wanting to destroy his work computer (illegal BTW). Or an engineer who wants to destroy proprietary data before disposing of a computer.

I have first-hand knowledge that a 12 pound sledgehammer will terminate a hard drive.

1.) mobo, break in half...

2.) HD get a Drill with a Metal BIT and just practice making holes... or put a screw through it...

3.) problem solved...

Ben

"If it works don't fix it! If it doesn't use a sledgehammer..."

I find a 16 pound Sledge even better than a 12.

Or even better,
Seal up case.
Drill a hole in side of case.
Fill 20% full with Aviation fuel.
Now fill the rest with Liquid Oxygen (try not to freeze fingers)
Insert a ordinary spark plug.
Conect to very long HT lead.
Conect to a standard car coil which in turn is connected to the car battery with a switch.
Take cover and flick the switch.

HDD and Mobo is now "Fried"
