If use Win 2000 Server Terminal Services to run
applications for client computers, do i need a license for
all the applications multiplied by the amount of client
computers?
For example if i use Terminal Services to run Photoshop
using a low spec win 98 machine as the client and there
are three client machines running it, do I need to have to
have 3 licenses?

Thanks in advance

Chris

Short answer: Yes

Long answer: Check with each software supplier as to how their specific licensing works.

I agree with lander, you need to check with the software vendor. For example, we have Office loaded on all of our Citrix servers; however, we have more users than total licenses. To make sure we stay in compliance with our license agreement, we have created security groups that will only allow certain users access the .exe files for that particular application. We have checked with Microsoft and they have no problem with this type of configuration, and this makes license auditing very simple.

I hope this helps.

I've done several licensing jobs on Terminal Servers and both lander215 and bradx are right, but to extend on this:

Each and Every software vendor has different ways of licensing for Terminal Services. And this applies for EACH software from the same vendor as well.

It your gonna be completely legal on your Terminal Server, you will install the STRICT minimum for them to work with it, cause each software will require some research to find out what the licensing scheme will be.
