Need more info: Like, what context are they in? The same or different? If different do you have that option to change the context available? Do you have contextless login configured? Do you have workstation policies limiting what computer people can log in to?

from my understanding, it was a security id issue on the domain controller. when i added a new user with all the same settings it worked, seems the old user record had been deleted and recreated.
