Hi I wanted to add 10 Terminal Server CALS on our 2003 server. I made that server a license server then added the license using the Authorization number and the license number on the MOLP order confirmation email. But I still cannot get more then two TS sessions.

What am I doing wrong? Do we need Windows CALS too? I think the current licensing mode on the server is "Per Server"

Thanks if you can help!!
Steve

Do the licenses show up in the TS license manager snapin? On the TS get into the TS configuration snapin(from run its tscc.msc) under server settings make sure licensing is set to per user or per device, whatever applies to the licensing you purchased.

Have a look at Administrative Tools => Terminal Services Config => RDP-tcp Properties => Network Adapter.

Maximum connections may be set to 2.

This has caught me out before now

Roadkill, Licensing is set to "Remote Desktop for Administration" there is no other option so I cannot change that.

Topkapi, I tried to change this to "10" but it will not save no matter what I do...

AIX, the message I get is the infamous "The terminal server has exceeded the maximum number of allowed connections>"

I was thinking I need to purchase Windows User CALs for this but am not completely sure....

OK that means that the server is only set up for Remote Administration and you are only allowed 2 concurrent connections in this case (By admins).
If you intend to use this in Application server mode you need to install it as a full Terminal server. To do this go to Control Panel=>Add remove programs=> Add remove windows components. The server should then automatically detect the licenses that you have installed.

Hope that helps

Thank you Topkapi!! Strange, I thought I checked this when I checked off the TS Licensing but I guess I did not. Once the server restarts, I will let you know how it went. sounds very promising though. Thank you all for your help and quick response!

Thanks Topkapi. Once I changed "Restrict each user to one session" = "No" we were good to go. As you wrote, the 10 licenses we purchased appeared after the restart.

Thank you once again!
