Hi,

Please help! I'm having a knight mare with Terminal Services Licensing on Windows 2000 Server. I have several Wyse Terminals which RDP into one of our servers. It connects fine but my problem is that it is issued with a temporary license. I have tried uninstalling the licensing server, reinstalling, reactivating etc and now I have moved it to another server but the 3 temporary licenses are still there! How do I get rid of them and make them use their full CAL's???

Thanks for your help!

You need to activate the Terminal Server License with Microsoft. Better question, do you have a Terminal Client license? 2000 and XP Professional comes with a built in license.

Maybe someone can answer this for me, I've heard that Server 2003 does not accept the licenses anymore. Is this true?

Thanks,
Brian

Hello,

My Terminal Server License is active! The problem I have is with Wyse Terminals which are dummy clients which do not have an OS on, they simply point to another server using terminal services.

I am using 2000 Server so the problem relating to 2003 Server is not valid.

Thanks.

We had a bunch of similar issues on citrix, where the wyse terminal were not releasing CAL's once the session had eneded in the citrix/terminal server. The effect of this was that the purchased number CAL's were being consumed when the wyse terminal loggied in.

The solution was to update the firmware level of the Wyse device AND to phone microsoft to replennish your CAL free of charge.

BTW there was a similar issue with Win9x machine.

Cheers,

J.

I am still having the same problems - more detail is below:

I have a problem with our Wyse Terminals. These are thin clients. We use them to remote desktop into one of our servers. The problem I have is that they are being issued with temporary licenses. I had the situation at the weekend where there temporary licenses expired and the only way I have got them back up and running was to reinstall TS Licensing on another server and hard reset the terminals. Once again they have issued temporary 90 day licences. They have built in CAL's so they should get a full licence. We do not have this problem with our XP clients.

Does anyone know how to get onto full licenses?

Or an easier way to reissue the 90 day license?

Please do not suggest things like changing my clients registry as it is a thin client.

Thanks in advance.
