HI,
we have a NT4 domain that we want upgrade to 2000 domain.
we have purchase e new server , we will install NT4 Bdc then promote to Pdc and start the upgrade process.
(i will take off-line a bdc.....for fault tollerance).
I have a doubt about our terminal server 2000.
In our domain (NT4) there is a member server (w2k) with terminal server enable, it's also the license server.
anybody know if there are any problems with the T.S. ?
I can leave it a member server or, when finish the upgrade, i must to promote to DC.
Or maybe i have to change the license server?Or everything continue work without problems?

Thanks in advance any help will appreciate

Your Terminal services on your W2K, what setup is it? Is it for Administration or Everyone?

If its for Administration you'll have no problems.

If its for Everyone else, you'll need to check out the MS license site. It all depends on what clients you are going to attach to it. W2K Professional comes automatically with a CAL for W2k Server TS. For other clients, Win98/ME, you'll need to buy some CALs for them. TS does give 120 days (please check!!) before it starts denying access for lower clients (win98 etc).

If its for everyone else you'll need to install TS license server. Its ok. Look it up on Technet, they have 100s of docs on it. I just installed our and left it to run.We have 95% w2k clients, so we did not purchase any CALs.

Hope this helps

Hi Bert,

thanks in advance for your answer, but my problem it's an other.
The terminal server it's working fine without any problems, in application mode, we have buy 20 cals for the downlevel
clients.It's also the license server
Well, my doubt it's concerning the domain's upgrade
I can leave it a member server or, when finish the upgrade, i MUST to promote to DC.?

YOu can leave it has a member server. We have a Citrix server. You'll not have any problems. Citrix even recommend that you do not have TS or Citrix running on a DC. Citrix write the TS software for MS. So they should know!

Good luck.

Bert

that's good,

thank you very much for your help, Bert.
