We currently have Metaframe 1.8 running on server 2003. we have reached the limit on our Terminal Service cals "per Device" I got in contact with our Reseller and they said that we have to purchase more CALS. However, looking into the whole Terminal services issue. Wouldn't it make sense to just change everyone to a per USER CAL and NOT a Per DEVICE CAL??? Does citrix need a per device cal???

We're running into a problem with 1 user loading the citrix client on 4 of his machines and using up our cals.. Let me know what you guys think??

I would be using per user cal's therfore your users can log in wherever..

Citrix licensing is concurrent, therfore first come first served until you've got none left. Then a user logs off and one becomes available.

That user is lazy, and should be shot[wink]

If you have software assurance you are allowed to switch (once) from per-device to per-user or visa-versa. Contact Microsoft Clearinghouse.

If you don't have SA, you can grovel and beg, and perhaps they'll let you switch, but they don't have to let you.

I found Using Win XP Pro workstations resolves this problem completely. No CALS Needed!

For Windows Server 2003 TS, all client OS require TSCALS, as the TSLS no longer issues one from it's built-in pool like in 2000.

You can however get a free transition tscal from MSFT if you owned XP Pro Licenses before 04/2003.

Exactly patrickrouse you must have a license for every client or user for 2003. However have deemed that XP purchased before 1st May 2003 is a client desktop to Win2003. Must be "PRO" and you will need to prove it, with license info too.

Apart from that XP in any shape or form is NOT a client desktop to 2003, as win2000 pro was to Win2k server and Workstation was to previous server systems.
