Hello
I am running 2 W2K servers with terminal services running, being accessed by Citrix Metaframe on the client side. I have a separate W2K server handling the terminal services licensing. The problem, which is not across the board, is that when a client accesses TS, even though I have approx 50 available licenses, the License server hands out a temporary one. Then when the temp expires the client can no longer access the Term server.

I already have installed the licensing patch and had the licenses reissued by the clearing house, so that my valid licenses expire and can be reused.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have a similar problem.

I have a Win2K doing the licensing. This server is in the same Domain as my 3 Terminal servers. But the darn thing would not hand out licenses to the non-win2K machines.

All of my clients are 9X machines. About 10% or less dont get a permanent license. When the temps expire our only solution thus far has been to reimage the client.

Win2k server comes with builtin CALS for Win2k pro or XP pro. If you have Win9x machine running Terminal servers you will need to purchase additional licenses from M$ for your non Nt machines.
Ex: If you have a 25 users Win2k Server (It has 25 built in TS client Cals for Win2k pro and XP pro)

If you need 20 Win9x machines then will need to purchase 20 more CALS for your non NT machines.

Until then your Win9x machines will continue on getting temp licenses and after 90 days none will be able to log into the server.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but just want to let you know what you will have to do.

dmasch: I have already been "Bared" by MS. I have about 120 CALS of which 70 are available. As I said previously, all my clients are 9X, this only happens about 10% of the time.

Have you checked your event logs? Is there anything to tell you what might possibly be happening? Time of day, accesing at the same time? Glen A. Johnson

The Terminal Server reports event ID 1004, can't issue client license. There are no events on the License Server.

Does not appear to be any specific time of day.

I am able to ping with large packet size consistently. The last part does not pertain since it is 9X clients.

Benson,
Have you figured it out? I am having the identical problem.

Thanks,
Neil

No, still have the problem. Our work around is to reimage the PC when the license expires and hope it grabs a valid license. Some day when we tire of this, I'll spend the 250 to call Microsoft, God do I hate to do that.

Good luck
