Terminal Server stops responding - responds to pings

I'll get into more details later if need be when I can get them all, but we have a problem with several terminal server machines: After about a week, even with zero users connected, the server hosting terminal services locks up. However, they still respond to pings. If you try to connect using remote desktop, the screen begins to show up in that you get a white screen, but it never goes further than that.

Last time, I had a command prompt left up on the screen - I could move the mouse just fine, type into the command prompt just fine - but nothing will execute. No errors, just no response of any kind. I cannot right click anything but what the active window was when the server "crashed." When I tried to hit Ctrl+Alt+Del, the screen cleared so that the only thing on the screen is the default teal background. The mouse can be moved around, but that's it, nothing else ever happens. The machine has to be physically rebooted - even a remote shutdown command doesn't work. When the machine locks up in this way, the HDD light on the board is in a constant on state, while the light on the actual HDD shows no activity.

Once rebooted there are no errors logged of any kind, and we never get any error messages of any kind.

This happens on 4 different servers, so we've narrowed it down to a hardware issue - we've already tried updating the BIOS.

Until I get all the exact details I wanted to see if anyone knew what type of problem this seems to be.

Update: Finally got error messages on last crash:

They all say the same error, for different files/folders -

"Windows - Delayed Write Failed

Windwos was unable to save all the data for the file C:\Windows. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere."

I know it's not the network connection, I'm thinking it may be bad SATA connections, or a bad batch of hard drives. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

sounds like a failing HDD to me initially....
