Hello There,

I have a windows 2000 server installed and we have reached the two concurrent user limit for terminal services.

There has been two new license's purchased but does anyone know how i can add these two licenses to the server to allow more connections?

Any help would be very greatful...

Many Thanks....

You must be in application mode in order to install Ts licenses. If you are still ip admin mode then you can only have to connections at a time.

What are you using the server for? Remote administration or application. By default Windows clients do not need seperate licenses for using terminal services.

I am not sure which mode i am in? so you can tell how confused i must be.

The server is a finance application server that remote admin users want to have a terminal services session with.

If we have more than two terminal server sessions on this machine we get a "too many connections message" when anyone else tries. I then have to close one session so that someone else can log in.

What i want to do is add two more licenses to this server for terminal services to run for more than two sessions.

The licesnses have already been purchased.

If anyone can help i really appreiate it.

I believe you will actually have to purchase four licenses. Once you change from Remote Admin mode (which is not expandable beyond two sessions) to Application Server mode you lose those two "free" licenses. To change modes go to the control panel and select 'Add/Remove Programs' then select the 'Add/Remove Windows Components' option. You can just click next without changing any options as the next page that you see should be a question about wheter to be remote admin or app server. This is where you will need to make the change. Also note that you must set up a Terminal Services Licensing Server on one of your domain controllers after you change to app server and register the machine with Microsoft's license clearing house to add the licenses. Hope this helps!

Hello Admanok,

Yes what you have said was very helpful.

I will now complete as suggested.
