On my SL1 terminal it seems to be giving off funny key combinations instead of letters when I type in anything. It looks like lon was ran so how do you get out of it? Whenever I try to press keys you get all ^3, ^+, ^t, .etc. Also when I try to hit enter it gives a ^M. How can I fix this problem?

try resetting the terminal ... and double check the settings to match the system

How do you reset the terminal and double check the settings?

What kind of terminal?
Also, you could connect a PC com port to the SDI, but make sure settings are correct.

I'm physically at the computer itself. Whenever I try to type it comes up with ^3, ^x characters instead of the letters themselves like a, b, c. And the enter key gives off a ^M, so even if I could somehow put in a command it won't let me press enter just keeps on giving me ^M's.

ok your using a pc not a term, what kind of software are you using, sounds like you term emulation is wronge.^M is acsi for carriage return, you may just need to reload your kbd file.. but doesn't sound like it because it is sending true ascsi, more like a dat file corrupt..i would try an alt-f8 to see if i could find the kbd file name and graba copy from another pc and dup it...

I'm on the SL1 computer itself. I'm not using HyperTerminal and dialing into the SL1. I'm literally in the main switch room and can't correctly put in commands. This started to happen after lon was entered.

Hi,

First of all turn off line editing (LOF).

Second what terminal emulation are you using?? Try TTY, VT-100, VT-102.

What software level are you on??

If Bill Gates had a nickel for every time Windows crashed... Oh wait, he does...

I can't put in lof, cause I get the ^3, ^t, .etc characters instead and even if I do happen to get lof printed on the screen I can't press return it'll give me the ^M character.

How can you tell which emulation you are using?

this usually indicates that the parity\baud rate is wrong, 9600 N 8 1 is the most common setting

when you say your physically at the computer, is this pc directly connected to the m1, if not how does it access the m1, ie dial-up, term server???

OK, so is it a PC or a VT100 type terminal. If it's a PC, what s/w app are you using for the terminal emulation,eg Hyperterminal. Procomm ??

Then it's porbably a VT100 type terminal then.

hit F3 on the terminal and go into set up. tell us what model of terminal you are using and we should be able to help you (It should be on the top of the setup page you will see when you hit F3). It sounds like your emulation or keyboard langauge has been changed.

if its a wyse f3 menu will get you to a keyboard choice also, emulation would be my first check along with speed and parity

I just saw this thread and not to hijack this thread, but we have the same problem too and couldn't get it figured out. I've been following it and I tried going into F3, and it says it's a VT420 V1.4. In the COMM settings it has

Transmit=9600
Receive = Transmit
7 bits, Even Parity, No Check
1 Stop Bit
No Local Echo
Data Leads Only
Limited Transmit
No Auto Answer back
Answer Back=
Not Concealed

In the Global Setup

OnLine
S1= Comm1
CRT Saver
Printer Shared
70 hz

In the General Setup is

VT400 Mode, 7 Bit Cotnrols
VT420 ID
User Defined Keys Unlocked
User Features Unlcoked
Application Keypad
Normal Cursor Kehys
No New Line
UPSS DEC Supplemental
When Available Update

I've tried changing the VT mode, and the transmit speeds but to no avail.

For some reason you are seeing the ASCII data. When you go into your setup is there maybe a maintenance or offline menu choice that could be active?

Well...I meant the control characters only as you are not seeing your own characters. Sorry.
Do you have PC available that you connect to the com port along with Procomm or some similar comm software that emulates VT100?

DaveKata or kavindahmed,
I am in a similar bind, how did you solve this situation?
