I am starting to gather information on wether or not one of our divisions should be switched over to a terminal server. One of the questions that I have not been able to obtain from any of the MS whitepapers is if the client's have access to local media. Several of the users in this division need to have the ability to save to a local floppy/zip/LS120. Will terminal clients have this ability?

TS does not map the Floppy or other RM to a drive w/in the TS session. THe only local mapping the TS will do is the printer. If the loacl drive is shared, you might be able to map those shared drives on a per user or computer basis. I am not sure about that. It just cam to me and I would have to verify.

I have solved this problem by telling my users to share their local hard drives with the Letter of the drive as the sharename. I've then added a logon script onto the terminalserver that will automatically map those drives. To find the correct clientname I used an environment variable. I think it was <HOSTNAME> or something similar. Just type SET on your terminal window to find the correct one. (Sorry I am far away from my terminalserver. Otherwise I would have sent the script.)

By the way, sharing the local drives is also the microsoft knowledge base solution for this problem.
