Hello,

Does anyone know the correct TERM environment variable to support vi editing through hyperterminal?

I am using hyperterminal as a terminal emulator on a Dell laptop connecting to a SUN E450. The default TERM setting was sun, but vi didn't like this. I tried TERM=vt100, which lets me see the file but not move up and down!

Thanks,

Andy

Did you export TERM after setting it to VT100?

VT100 is the lowest common denominator, so it should work!

I did the export and checked the setting with echo. Vi displays text correctly but now won't let me move up and down the doc.

Are you trying to use arrow keys or h, j, k and l to move around the document?

The former will most probably not work.

Thanks that's the answer, arrow keys don't work, but h,j,k, an l do.

Cheers,

Andy
