Templates and documentation orientation

I have created a template in word 2000 and created my own styles within the template. I have then modified the template such that the page orientation and other layout settings are default for future docs based on this template, did this using FILE---PAGE SETUP---default (control button).

The problem is that when I attach this template to a new document the new styles show-up but the page layout settings have not changed to how my applied template was setup....why is this I thought that these settings would effect the new document directly when my template was attached.

Hi Fergus

I think it would work if you used the template as your 'base' document, then attached a new document to it. I think the settings Word uses are those set for the first template used.

Thanks Doreen have opened up the template I created as a document and then inserted my other typed up document which now seems to inherit my custom template settings. The only thing is when I do a print preview no text appears but in normal view all seems normal, I am using Word 2000 SR1 and this may be a bug or MS are having a laugh!!

Hi Fergus

Are you trying to look at your document in 'Print Preview' itself. If so try using, 'View'... 'Print Preview' but then set the maginification to 'whole page' or 'two pages' - that will give you the same effect but hopefully retain everything on the page. These days in Word I don't bother with the actual Print Preview button - you can do everything you need to from the rule by using 'View - print preview'.
