I at times see references made relative too deleting all files in the temp folder. When the temp folder is referred too, do you mean the C:\WinNT\temp and|or C:\documents and settings\user\local settings\temp ? I have 128 megs of files and folders in the latter and I want to delete but don't know what effect it will have to do so.

Thanks in advance

hi

you must have to delete temp files from c:\winnt\temp.
It effects your pc more faster and it also protects from the viruses.

What about other places other than c:\winnt\temp ?

You should delete:

c:\winnt\temp
C:\documents and settings\%USERNAME%\local settings\temp

They are both safe to delete.

Start, run, cmd

Type:

set

You should see a listing of all TEMP directories. Write them down. Some may have names like temp, WINTEMP or other possibilities.

You can either continue to use the command line to delete the files in these directories; e.g. del c:\temp\*.* or use Explorer.

Under C:\documents\settings\%USERNAME%\local settings\temp and as subfolders I have a cookies, Temporary Internet Files, and history. I wonder what they are because I have those folders that seem to be the ones that are used under the settings folder.

Thanks again

*.temp will likely yield few files in a search.

In My Computer, right-click on your drive and choose Properties. Use the Disk Cleanup tool to remove temporary files.

In Internet Explorer, Tools, Internet Options, General, use the Temporary Internet Files, and the History boxes to cleanup unecessary files in these catagories.
