Put up a new server runing RedHat V7.1. I can't telnet from one of our local boxes to the new server. I get the following message: Could not open a connection to the host. Connection fail. Do I need to do anything to allow Telnet on my new server?

Hi,

try to edit the file /etc/inetd.conf. Uncomment the line begins with telnet. Don't know if it is the case.

Sounds like you haven't enabled it in /etc/xinetd.d/. Look for the file telnetd and change "disable = yes" to "no." Restart xinetd and you should be fine.

Hi
vi /etc/xinetd.d/telnet and change disable=no
/etc/rc.d/init.d/xinetd restart (restart xinetd)
