I have a problem trying to telnet to a server from another. I have two p630 server configure in the same subnet. I cannot telnet from server1 to server2 only. I can telnet to any other server but not to server2. I can telnet the other way around. Meaning I can telnet from server2 to server1. Any ideas anyone.
Thanks.

Check /etc/inetd.conf to make sure the telnet line isn't commented out.

Nope, it is not commented out. I am able to telnet to other servers with no problem. I just cannot telnet to server2. I can ping it tho, not telnet. With server2 I have no problems. I can telnet anywhere. Thanks for your help.

Can you telnet to server2 from anywhere other than server1?

Maybe server1 has the wrong idea of where server2 is.

Does "host server2" return the correct IP address when executed on server1?

On another tack, could you please post the entire telnet line from /etc/inetd.conf?

Are you using TCP wrappers with any entries in /etc/hosts.deny

I think there is an invalid route between the 2 servers.

I've had this problem with dynamic route.

What is the result of the commande "netstat -r" on the 2 servers. Perhaps there is a dumy route in one of the 2 servers.

I have just the hosts names in /etc/hosts hardcoded. The funny thing is that sometimes I try to telnet and I get in right away. Some other times, it takes a while and most of the times it just times out. Here is the result of netstat -r
# netstat -r

I can't really tell which is a dummy entry.

This behaviour is seen when you have duplicate hostnames in /etc/hosts with different IP addresses (only one being correct)

What this one?
0.1 adminbox U 0 0 en2 - - -

Is adminbox defined in the hosts file?

You said "The funny thing is that sometimes I try to telnet and I get in right away."

Maybe the pb is this one : 2 serves with the same ip adress ?... sometimes the 2nd server is up, sometimes not...

Recently I'had this pb with a very old Pc that was always off, but one day a user has started this machine...

You have entries for "adminbox" and "adminbox.jhmc.org". If this server is in the jhmc.org domain, this could be a clue to the problem. Check /etc/hosts for an entry for either having the wrong address.
