Hi!
When I telnet inot Solaris syetm it takes about 2-3 mins. for the login to appear. Similarly netstat -r command will show the headers right away but not any routing information.

Once I am logged in through Telnet, I can move around normal.

Why so much delay and especially netstat output is extremly slow.

This may sound strange, but check that your routing (gateway, netmask, etc) and DNS entries are correct.

I have run in to some telnet daemons that will take forever to come back with a prompt if any of the above is wrong/missing.

Agreed, DNS is often the problem. You said netstat -r was slow... is netstat -rn quick? If so, it's definitely because of slow response from your DNS.

I did try netstat -rn and it is instant response.

netstat -r is a drag and extremly slow, if I do see any output at all.

Check your DNS config in /etc/resolv.conf to make sure it is pointing to the correct DNS servers. Make sure there aren't any unnecessary domains listed in the search parameter, if it is present. If it all looks fine, check with your DNS administrator to find out why it is performing so poorly.
