Before we go through the motions of moving a hardware server-based TW over to a virtual server I thought I'd ask if anyone else had yet done it and if there were any gotchas or other things to watch out for? (don't like surprises)

Thnx

Good News and Bad News,

Good News: One of my customers was successful in virtualizing the TW server.

Bad News: I don't know how they did it. After finding that Mitel did not yet support virtual servers for TW (6 months ago, might be changed) I basically left this challenge in the customers hands. They are software developers and have several specialists with Linux so they somehow tweaked the system to conform.

Good Luck

Thanks. I too have a couple pretty sharp Linux gurus, so he should be able to get-'er-done. The point being it sounds like it's doable.

MIMB....

If you get-'er-done...please share!

Thanks!

From looking at our Teleworker server I would say it's perfectly possible, there are no hardware specific reasons I can see.

I wouldn't recommend it though as there is often the Plumber Response from resellers.... "ahhh it's on a virtual server... that'll be the problem... we don't support that configuration..."

In addition having a Virtual server which requires DMZ access is something I'd prefer to avoid, the other less likely option is that the network traffic is a problem, especially if your server moves blades due to vmotion - if it moves ports you could experience drop-outs.

Project has been back-burnered for forseeable future, maybe end of summer.

Hi there,

I successfully installed the TW onto VMware over a year ago with no issies at all. You simply install it in the exact same you would with a physical server.

You just simply have the MSL ISO sitting on the server point the CDrom to the ISO start VMWARE and away you ogo.

ianuk1974,

Not all virtual servers are configured the same. My customer's did not have a CDrom for example. The program had to be reconfigured to load from USB.

It can be simple, it can be impossible, and everything in between.

Bottom line, if you have difficulties, its not supported.
