We got hit by lightning (again). One of my DSM32+ modules took it.

What is different now, though is that I can't access my Telephony Services.

I tried to restore a backup using the BRU, but it said that it was unable to load data to the Media Services Module.

I have an old BCM 400 that was hit before (about a year ago). The PCMCIA cards on that Media Services Module are still in it. Can I try and switch the ones I have out with those?

The old one was on 3.5, and this one is on 3.7.

Any help would be appreciated...

Some more info:
All phones work when I move the one working DSM around and configure the dip switches.
All DNs still show the right information
All Mail Boxes are still functioning.
All VoIP phones are still functioning.

Let me know if there are questions.

I can access the sytem through the serial port...

I have purchased 2 new PEC cards, and when I "Initialize Universal Profile" it still says that I have bad PECs.

Looks like it is the MSC...@%#$^@%!

If I put the HDD that I had with 3.7 loaded into a BCM400 with 3.6....will I be on the current version?

I ask because I can buy a BCM 400 with 3.6 for a LOT less than my reseller will sell a new one for.

The HDD seems OK, and so does the Base function tray, for that matter.

Any thoughts?

how about an update on this? Please

The main reason I wanted to stick with our 3.7 system was to restore a backup of the Telephony programming. I learned that you can't restore a backup to a system with a different system ID.

I purchased a BCM 400 Redundant on 4.0 from a dealer online. (BTW...On another thread, I learned that the MSC is a field replaceable part, so I might have been OK with just replacing that, but I already had the system.)

I left my distributor behind and moved to a different provider. They will be here on Tuesday to apply my upgrade kit to 4.0, and get me back up on the new BCM.

You CAN restore a backup from one SYSID to another...you need to restore ONLY telephony and Voice Apps and nothing else. It works, I have done it many times and in fact have a customer who has a hot-standby unit that they regularly restore a backup from their active machine to.

Well...!*$@#...

Thanks for the input...I can't stop this train now...

Is there a way to get the Backup for the telephony off of a 3.7 system, and onto a 4.0 system?

You cannot restore data from one version of software to another. If you want to restore from one BCM to another, the software releases, core loads, patch levels must match exactly for it to work.

OK...Like I said...I can't stop this train now...We were going to have to reprogram in a month or so when we moved into the new building anyway...I wish I didn't have to do this 2 weeks before the end of School, but it will save me some time later.
