Telephone vs Bria

Hello

We have a Mitel 3300 and have a remote employee who uses a Macbook and I would like for him to utilize our Mitel system. I have looked at Bria and Telephone for MAC.







Does anyone know if Telephone for MAC is compatible with the Mitel 3300 system? If so, has anyone used it and is it reliable? Thank you
 
You should be able to get any SIP end point up on the 3300 ( ie Bria ).

I'd tell you a UDP joke but I'm afraid you won't get it. TCP jokes are the best because you always get them.
 
Bria works well, I have also used the 3cx sip phone (not sure if that is available for the Mac). 3cx is free, while Bria should be purchased. I know that 3cx has the settings for the SIP capabilities form and pretty sure that Bria has it as well. For full functionality if you are running UCA I would look at the desktop or sip clients there.

We run Bria on iPhones, iPads, iMacs and Mac Book Pros through a Mitel Boarder Gate and they work flawlessly. Users can't believe they can use an iPad for an extension.
 
So I think you have some good suggestions for a client. How are you planning on connecting the MAC to the Mitel? MBG? VPN?

As to your comment regarding reliability keep in mind that now your phone is a PC ( ok its a MAC don't get me started ) and your traffic will be connecting to the main site via the internet. You concern about reliability would be mostly in the area of QoS or rather the lack of QoS which effects voice quality. Physical Mitel phones in teleworker mode have some additonal jitter buffers in play to help with QoS across the internet ( where there is none ). Otherwise you should be fine.

Thanks Loopy he will log into the VPN I just need to figure out how to program his extension with the Bria Software etc. I am a facilities administrator and have basic Mitel programming knowledge. We have a Mitel 3300 CXI controller and I am hoping that the setup directions below will guide me in the right directions. Check out the link below:

 
The Bria is a SIP phone. You program a SIP extension on the 3300, setup a SIP profile and then have to setup the Bria. Depending on your software load you might need SIP users licenses for the 3300 extension. In older Mitel software there was seperate SIP user licenses. In newer software they folded that into normal User licenses. Sorry but I can't remember what load exactly that happend in but I think it was the transition from Release 9 to MCD 4.

There should be an application note Mitel has produced on how you need to program the Bria and the 3300. They typically produce them for more popular products.

Finally you need to make sure the VPN is setup so data packets from the remote phone can route to the subnets containins all the phones they would need to speak to as well as the 3300 and the voicemail. We see many posts here from people using VPN with complaints of one way audio. That typically is a routing issue. Remember that for call setup packets flow from the IP of the Bria to the IP addresses of the 3300. Once the call is setup then voice packets ( RTP ) flow directly between the IP of the Bria and the IP of the device they are talking to. So if you VPN hands out a local IP then there needs to be routing form its subnet to the subnets where the voice devices are ( typically voice VLANS ).

The beatings will continue until morale improves.
