telenet to switch - unknown characters when entering

I telnet to the Meridian option 11 switch and do all my configuration, and have been doing this for years.
This issue happened once previously and a reboot of the phone system solved this problem. I'd like to know if there is an alternate solution.
After i connect to the switch, and push 'enter" i get ^M instead of a >
another example: if i type logi I get lo^'i
I am sure there must be a key combination to reset this??

disable the port or the card and reseat it..
