Hi,
I have CCM 6.1 with 4 remote sites using Cisco 2801 with FXO card.
Each site has a few copper lines from Telco. I have CID enabled, but its not working. When I contact telco, they inform me that the line have to be switched from Trunks to POTs for CID to work. They assure me I will not lose any functionality and the price will be a little cheaper.

Will this cause any adverse issues with the router?

What is the difference between a "trunk" and "pots"?
I have always considered trunks to be used with Key systems and POTs for residential (or equivilant).

Thanks in advance.

The very first thing I'd check is how the FXO's are configured. If they are configured as MGCP ports, you are done unless you change them to H.323. FXO's won't do CLID in MGCP mode, only H.323. Second be sure you FXO card's support CLID, the older one's didn't. Just because you can program it doesn't mean the hardware supports it.
Lastly, put a CLID capable phone on the Telco line and be sure you are getting CLID from them.
I don't know of a difference between analog 'trunks' or 'POTS' lines except possible the billing. Maybe if they are ground start it's considered a 'Trunk' and loop start is 'POTS' depends on your Telco.

The FXOs are h.323. We did this to allow for CLID and they are programed for it. The Telco said they cannot provide CLID on a trunk line, only POTs. I do think that ground start is an option on Trunks, maybe thats the difference. All of mine are loop start.

Thanks

Thsi has happened to me, depending on the carrier. Sometimes they have a CallerID block on the lines and they don't show it, if the number recently changed over to a new carrier, You may have to goto your rep or even have the telco come out and prove they have CID, before it is connected to your FXO.
