MICS 7.0 with phones set up with 2 Target line appearances. If the phone is set up for DND on Busy when the second call comes into the Target line it does just flash but only for a couple of seconds then you get an Intercept recording from Telco. Anyone ever heard of this? If I don't use the DND then everything works like it should.

Make sure the LEC is sending the digits on the second call. I have seen that problem when the carrier sent the digits on the first call but not on the calls after that.

I'll see if I can find out the recording and I'll also check for digits. But I think the digits are comming because I do have 2 keys for that Target line and it does flash the second key for about 3 to 5 seconds then Telco takes over.

Ok the intercept is something that Bell South offers when it sees a busy line. For a fee they will retry the call for a couple of minutes and connect to you if they get through. I'm trying to get 2 calls in on a Target Line but if you are on the first one I don't want the next to ring I just want it to Flash. If I turn DND (OFF) then I get 2 calls both ring, if I turn DND (ON) then I only get the first call the second returns a busy signal. Can someone tell me what I'm missing or another way to do this?
Thanks,

Check the setting on the target lines where you are asked what to do in a busy condition, my memory fails me exactly what it says but there is an option for busy signal or not

I have that set to go to Prime Set. With the set that has the Target Line being the Prime Set. I still get busy.

Update: OK if I have that line set to RING on another set then it will accept the second call. But if I make it appear only on the other set then I just get the first call and the second goes busy.

Makes me wonder if Nortel has really worked out all of the bugs in the PRI software. Could be a carrier issue too I suppose but it also kind of makes me wonder why the muted ring on a second call is a problem.

I think I'd try making them both appear and ring with DND on busy set to no and fwd busy set to none, then turn the ringer down to the lowest acceptable level and demonstrate how much softer the muted ring is on the second incoming call. Ring type 2 might help also because it doesn't sound quite as frantic as the other 3.

If they intend to answer the second call why wouldn't they want it to ring? Not too many people will spend an entire conversation monitoring a line button.

Otherwise I'd make it forward somewhere on a busy and take away a line appearance.

Hawks,

Have you resolved this?? I am getting the same result on a new BCM 400 4.0....

I've never seen this - DND on busy gets you a brief flash on the phone on the second line appearance, then caller gets busy tone. On earlier BCM's and on MICS and CICS systems, it always worked that DND on busy gets you flash but no ring on second call, then follows cfna setting of phone.

Thanks.

are we making sure you are allowing for 2 ringing occurences in set programming for line appearences

absolutely.

In fact, if DND on busy is OFF, 2 calls come in on the line no problem.

If DND on busy is ON, the 2nd call gets brief flash on 2nd line appearance, then caller hears busy.

Thanks.
Elise
