Hello
I installed my Vista 1 year ago,and made a Complete C: Backup after that 3 days.
These last days my computer started to freez often, and go BSD everyday.
I went to Complete PC Restore in dos...but at 90% it always gives me the blue screen:

DRIVER_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

TEHNICAL INFORMATION

***STOP (0X00000000B0,0X0000000002,0X0000000001,XFFFFF98000A3438E)

*** NVSTOR.SYS - ADDRESS FFFFF98000A3438E BASE AT FFFFF9000A2D000

Nither intalling a clean Vista worked,it gave me the BSD in the installation process.

I don't think it's the HDD because i finished installing XP clean and it works just fine.

What's with the Vista BSD thing anybody...:|
Just tired of reinstalling

If it's giving you a DRIVER_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error, then it sounds like a driver issue, hardware incompatibility issue.

Did you change any hardware before the blue-screens started? Or what else changed, if you know?

No hardware modifications made for over 1 year, just changed my mouse to a usb mouse.
20 days ago i updated my video drivers;except that..no software modifications either.

Maybe what could help to mention is:

When i start the computer and the components check finish,it writes now:

"6st Master:WDT(western Digital - my HDD) Capable and Status BAD

Press F1 to Resume"

I press F1 and then it goes into booting XP/booting from CD for install/etc

Until now i diden't had to press that F1;now if i don't press it ,it just stays idle

I believe Vista is more sensitive to storage device defects than XP is for whatever reason, at least that was found to be the case for me with a USB Thumb drive. So it's possible something IS going wrong with your hard drive.

Some things you could do/use to check/fix it are:
Ultimate Boot CD - has various free applications for checkign/fixing all sorts of things.
Also, you could just try a total Disk Format with DBAN (Darik's Boot 'n' Nuke):
If there is a problem that can be fixed by a format, that'll do it for sure.

If all that doesn't work, and you think it's worth your time, you could try SpinRite for repairing your hard drive. But it's not free.

But really, if you are also getting a disk error, it will likely be something with the disk, or possibly the hard drive controller, or the entire motherboard...

Can you try connecting the hard drive to a different port? That would help narrow down whether it's the drive or the controller.

Well, at least we know it's probably not the controller, then.

A good total format with DBAN might help. If you can download and burn the ISO image to a CD, then boot from that, and wait for a good while - possibly overnight - and then re-attempt restoring Vista tomorrow, that might get you there - if it's not going bad.

Also, a search provided that the error is SAYING it's related to the graphics adapter by Nvidia.

This forum thread:

Seems to say that some people had this happen after overclocking.

Have you tried tweaking any BIOS settings?

All bios settings are default since i bought the computer.
I will try the the DBAN format method tommorow.
I'll keep you in touch.
Thank you very much.

6st Master:WDT(western Digital - my HDD) Capable and Status BAD"

This is a SMART error being thrown by the hard drive. I suggest downloading and running Western Digital's diagnostics on the hard drive. Whether this is the cause of your Vista issue isn't clear, but you do want to check the health of your drive.

Ok..I managed to get XP to work.
I installed "Western Digital Data Lifeguard Diagnostics".
The Program see's my HDD , and on the "SMART Status" Tab it writes "FAIL" with red.

I tried to do the test to the HDD..but those failed too.

I guess if SMART fails...the whole HDD is dead 100%,and i should back-up my files as long as it is still working a bit.

Right?

Thank you

Yeah, if I had to guess your disk has issues. And with the prices of hard drives nowadays, I'd say back it up, chunk it, and get a new one (well, not really chunk it - format it first at least - if possible - with dban). [smile]

The drive certainly looks to be going bad. Yes, back up important data immediately.

Don't chuck the drive! I looked up the warranty status on WD's site and, assuming the serial number in your first image is correct (WCARW0703356), this drive is still under warranty and replaceable (or upgradable):

Code:
Serial No Model No Status Exp Date Options
WCARW0703356 WD3200AAKS-00VYA0 In Limited Warranty 11/15/2010† Upgrade

Yes, definitely get it replaced if it's under warranty. But if you need a drive while it's being RMA'ed, just get a new one, and use the replacement as a spare or something. [wink] I didn't even think about the warranty part, myself. It's the cheapest way to get a replacement drive ANY time.

Hi all,

I don't think this is an issue with the hard drive. I suspect that it is a driver issue in Vista causing a problem with the nVidia graphics card. This problem is then causing grief with other hardware in the system.

If preator1 has on-board nVidia graphics I would suggest chucking a different gaphics card into the system and using the relevant drivers for that card. If the card you have is a PCI express type, then try unplugging it and installing Vista with your on-board graphics controller or a non-nVidia card in your graphics slot.

If you get no errors, then go back and install the nVidia card and try various Vista drivers for your model of Graphics card that has been causing the problem.

If you Google the web with "NVSTOR.SYS Sata" you will find miles and miles of people with similar problems. I'll leave it up to you to find the right solution, just be prepared to spend some time on this. Get the right info, get the right drivers and patches, put it all together and hope for the best.

I hope you get it sorted but don't waste your time fixing a drive that is fine because "I don't think it's the HDD because i finished installing XP clean and it works just fine" :)

Regards Munz.

Munz,

I don't think you read this post from the OP:

According to that most recent post, the hard drive is failing.

Oftentimes with Windows blue-screen error, you'll get an error message about a particular driver file, when in fact that driver has absolutely nothing to do with the real problem, other than being on the same computer.

Not to mention the second attached .jpg shows Re-allocated Sector Count as FAIL.

I took the HDD to the store..and they tested it,and found him as "broken" :) or some kind
They said i'll get a new one from my warrenty.
Now i have a temporerly HDD (Maxtor 80G) ...and the "Press F1" think when i open my computer has gone.

The problem is...when i try and play for over 30 minutes...my computer blocks itself, and i haf to restart it.
I went to event viewer and this is the error
"Faulting application war3.exe, version 1.22.0.6328, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x6d9ab2a0."

So the the old HDD(Western) and another component could still be broken right now.
"shitty thing ppl"

But Thank you all ppl.

You could try uninstalling and reinstalling your WOW3.
