What will be your advice to a newbie in the world of Avaya/pbx configurations, what must i he know and what materials will you recommend?

Thank you.

1) attend the manufacturers authorised training course.
2) ensure you are familiar with Data networking
3) Attend the manufactures authorised training course
4) study all published documentation & guides (Avaya has very good IPO Docs)
5) attend the manufacturers authorised training course.

I know 1, 3 & 5 are the same but it is so important I felt it worth repeating.

A Maintenance contract is essential, not a Luxury.
Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

And if you have a chance to get some hands on training with a qualified tech by your side, that would help immensely.
Nothing better then on-the-job training

Agreed with mojoputter! I just started working a with a few techs and learned on the fly, that got my feet wet the best. I wouldn't mind going to some vendor authroized training.

Buy your product from a vendor with good tech support. Have had good luck with Jenne. Taking a certification course from, like recommended above, is also a great way to get to know the guys and make some new contacts.
