I'm looking at implementing Asterisk to my Option 11C via a T1 connection.

Do I need to install a second TDMI card into the Option 11, or can I somehow make use of the existing TDMI card and just program it for the new asterisk connection?

If this is possible, how do I wire it to the new asterisk? Is there a splitter, or will I have to build a custom cable?

Thanks

If the TMDI card in your system is not in use, then you can re-use it for your connection. Otherwise, you will need to buy another TMDI or a UDT card.

Depending on what is plugged into the amphenol connector that corresponds with the TMDI card, you may need one or both of the following:

1. DB15 Female to RJ-45 Adapter
2. T-1 Crossover Cable

Allenmac, Thanks so much!

It is in use for the PRI from CO. If I got another TDMI card, is it straightfoward to install a second TDMI card? Or there hidden evils with attempting this?

Alternatively, We have a universal trunk card with 7 ports available. I'm a bit hazy on exactly what a trunk port allows me to do.

Could I make use of some of these available trunk ports to connect to asterisk?

Thanks

A universal trunk card accepts different types of single line copper trunk connections. If your Asterisk system has the ability to accept analog trunks, then you could use this for your connection.

It is fairly easy to setup a TIE connection to another system using a digital connection (PRI or T-1), the most important thing is to make sure your configuration is correct on both sides.

For example, if you are using PRI, then you need to make sure that the D-Channel protocol is configured correctly on each end for the signaling to work properly. If you use NI-2 for instance, one side must be the Master and the other side the Network.

I used to an on-site tech at a site that had 2 large switches in the same switchroom servicing 2 different buildings. The switches were connected using multiple PRI Ties that were simply T-1 Crossover cables run under the floor between the switches and terminating on either the old QPC720 single, or Dual PRI cards in each switch.

What is the advantage to installing a second TMDI card in my 11C?

For each PRI or T1 circuit your option 11 supports, the system requires the appropriate hardware interface, so if you are adding a PRI or T1, then you would need to add another TMDI card (if that is what you are using to terminate the circuit on).
