Why are you using Solaris commands to view network settings? Try 'ifconfig -a'.

Use 'mktcpip' to setup your networking permanently. Run mktcpip without options to see what flags it requires.

Or, as Khalid already suggested, use smit, and the shortcut "smit mktcpip" will take you where you need to be immediately.

Your comment:
"Why are you using Solaris commands to view network settings?"

Are you referring to that well known Solaris command "smit"?

That is a new one for me and I cannot find a man page on Solaris for smit.

Numpty!

What is your exact problem and what your trying to find out.

Please be clear what you want so that someone can help.

Mr. DukeSSD idiot. prtconf is an old Solaris command. Get your facts straight and stop being an idiot.

Hey people, please settle down. Just one more nap till it's weekend ;-)

prtconf has been in AIX since 2001 I believe. It may have its origin in Solaris but I don't know that exactly.

Opus06, if you configure an interface just with ifconfig in AIX, you'll lose the config on reboot, because the it needs to be put in a database so that it can be re-applied on subsequent boots.

mktcpip will do that for you.

Furthermore, smit mktcpip or smitty mktcpip will build the mktcpip command line for you using an easy to use menu/dialog interface.

Well, I've heard of prtconf being in AIX before but so is useradd and similar Solaris commands and I know they're broken which is why it always concerns me when people use non-AIX commands (within reason of course, ifconfig is a BSD command;) ).

Nothing wrong with using SMIT ;)
