hello, I have a new to me vaxstation vlc, a us robotics wireless router with 2 wire ports. Ive installed vms 7.3, and tcpip 5.1 and reconfigured it many many times but can't seem to get it working.

my vax can ping the windows xp pc, but the pc cannot ping the vax. I can telnet from the vax to itself ok, though right now not sure wny it works as I configured it to use dhcp and dont seem to show my vax in its host tables but the previous address I assigned still works. before I reconfigured I deleted sys$system:tcpip*.dat after I shut down tcpip services.

Ive been involved in vax system management for years but this is my first one from scratch and have been away from it for a couple years now. so now im looking for a few pointers and hints on a little configuration so I can use tcpip to login from the pc instead of the console port. (no mouse kb or monitor for vaxvlc)

thanks in advance

On the pc, can your pc ping the vaxstation usip ip address?
Does tracert reach the vaxstation?

What errors do you get?

The answer to this can be kinda complex, depending on what you're trying to do exactly.

The short answer may be that dhcp client on OpenVMS OS is not available yet. On my systems I configure the router to assign dhcp addresses above the x.x.x.100, and then I set my OpenVMS systems to be static addresses in the range below x.x.x.100.

Does that help?
