Hi again!

I decided to start a new thread as i am am looking at a new way to solve the previously un resolved problem...

To recap, Our aloha server and 19 terminals reside on VLAN1, we have one terminal that lives on VLAN2, and as of tonight, we have our last terminla connected to our network via a VPN tunnel to another location.

I can ping, remote desktop, and veiw the 2 odd terminals in "my network places".

I called an uber-geek freind of mine (the alpha-geek) and he posed this question, that I hope someone can help me out with..before I spend all day tommorow with a port sniffer.

He was wondering what TCP (or UDP?) port the server and master broadcast from...his thinking is we can direct that traffic at the two odd terminals.

Anybody have any thoughts on this? and no, a saint bernard is still not an option!

Zack

RFS uses TCP port 60050 for communications by default.

If you use a router to communicate, ensure UDP ports 137, 138, and 139 are enabled to allow NetBIOS commands to pass through the router or switch.

Review the Debugging-Output-Files (debouts)located in the tmp folder on the terminals nd et me know what they say.

Thank you, I passed this information on too the alpha-geek, and I will find out tomorrow whether this information helps.

Dont' think it will work, Aloha uses a lower level of the network properties not alowing communication with the tcpip and network nameing conventions. Let me know if it does work I will be suprised.

RESOLVED - posting this so that others may learn what helped me.

It turned out to be as simple as posting 2 commands in the cisco swith that handles our router...

In Vlan 1 (the vlan with 19 terminals, the master and server) I added this to the vlan config...

IP helper-address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (the ip of the terminal in the other vlan)

In Vlan 2 (the vlan with the odd terminal)...

IP helper-address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (IP of server)
IP helper-address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (IP of Master1)
IP helper-address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (IP of Master2)

I also updated the LMHOSTS file with the term name and ips of all terms, and put that in each terminal.

works like a champ!

Thanks for your help guys...you pointed me in the right direction!
