Hi,

the prob is a pc wont ping any other terminals it just times out. it can be pinged by another terminal - so i checked the ip settingsusing 'winipcfg' - 4 some reason it shows that theres default gateway at the same address as the pc. On other PC on the network the default gate = n/a

when i look at the network settings and the TCP/IP details of the network card - it shows no gateways??

how can i remove this default gateway - i tried to remove thet whole protocal an try aging but no go.

any help appreciated. PArm

Is the PC in question receiving an IP address from the DHCP server?

What client are you using? If it is Client for Micro$oft Networks, are you logging on the the domain?

Sorry, Grygst, but 255.255.255.0 would be a class C subnet. You might be able to set it to 255.255.255.255 which would be an all inclusive broadcase address or 0.0.0.0 which is a querry address. However, I'd just go through and uninstall the NIC and the networking components (TCP/IP, dial-up networking, client for everything) and also switch primary network logon mode to Windows Logon.

Next, go into safe mode, remove any ghost drivers for the NIC. Then reinstall the NIC. Re-install the TCP/IP and configure it. Be sure your IP address and subnet matches the other systems on the network.
good luck. hg

ok, Im on a novell Netware Network with Win 98 workstations.

THe IPs are set manually, so static - there is no gatway on the network - hence other pc's which show no default gate work perfectly.

however, one pc keeps defaulting a gate on the same IP as i specified for it's IP address. Non of the other pc's do this - the gateway is not visible under tcp/ip for the NIC - but shows up when i check in winiscfg or using the ipconfig command.

i can ping the station from another station it's fine - but the one with the default gate won't ping out.

i tried 2 remove the nic & the tcp/ip protocal an come again - but no luck. i didn't go in safe mode and remove ghost drivers - how is this done?

It may not be your gateway that is causing the problem. Have you tried using a different IP address. Sometimes you will have a conflict and the tcp/ip is disabled. If there is a conflict you should get a message when the computer is started but I have seen times when the message does not come up even though there is a conflict.
