Hi
I lost my tcp/ip files in c:\I386 now i can't get on the net with my desk top. My desktop did not come with the os disk, xp. If i had the disc i could get it going again, is there another way without doing a restore.

What's wrong with doing a restore? Also, since I can't remember exactly how to do it, Google "rebuild tcp/ip stack Windows XP command prompt", or without the "command prompt" in the search...

Burt

I did a search as you mentioned a they suggested this utility.

/*To reset all TCP/IP-related registry settings, open a command prompt and type the following command:

netsh int ip reset <filename>

You must specify a log file in the <filename> placeholder for this command to work. Details about which registry keys were modified will appear in the log file. */

what would the log file be?

The log file is anything you want---it simply is a text file that writes the results of the stack rebuild. It will put the text file wherever directory you are presently in, unless otherwise specified...for example---say you want to name the text file "tcpip.log"... and put it right on top of the C:\ drive...

netsh int ip reset c:tcpiplog.txt

Hi Burt
Thank you very much for your help. I'm actually chatting from the down desktop. I've read in some other forum to use the os disk to reinstall the file, the disk fixes the problem automatically. Unfortunatly the os disc for this computer did not come with it. What i did is updated with sp3 so it would put the files back, with lots of hope rebooted and i'm back online.

Again thanks for your help burt have a good weekend.
