TCP/IP Connection

Hi, I've been racking my brain at work all day, and I'm at a dead end.

I have a Windows NT 4.0 server(BDC) and a Windows 2000 server(PDC) connected through a switch. I have tried everything to get the NT 4.0 server to talk to my new domain.

I would be grateful for any help,

assuming you have coccret tcp/ip settings, can you ping each other? if not, check the hardware settings such as NIC, switch.

Hi, No I can't ping in either direction, and I've double checked the hardware settings.

can you run "ipconfig /all" from each machine and post the output here?

your first step is to ensure they can ping each other.

check for tcp/ip setup, firewalls and inappropriate routing information.

I can't see all of the settings on the other server, but I'll give you what I can.

NT IP Configuration

Primary WINS Server ...........: 192.168.252.1

I checked for firewall and setup problems. Any help would be great ,Thanks.

if the subnet mask is REALLY supposed to be 255.255.255.0 then the default Gateway needs to be somewhere in 192.168.252.x somewhere. For THAT Gateway to work with that IP Address you would want a subnet mask like 255.255.0.0

Default Gateway ...............: 192.168.69.250

To the best of my knowledge NO subnet mask would let that Gateway work for that IP Address. Ever.

you could find Primary WINS Server ...........: 192.168.252.1 if you were somewhere on 192.168.252.x even without a functioning Gateway

Your 2 machines are on totally different networks, and you don't have a router between the 2 to route packets from one to the other. If only using a switch, you should have their IP addresses both set to 10.0.0.x (where x is different for each) with a gateway of 10.0.0.y, OR set both to 192.168.x.y, with the gateway on the same network.
