Hi, I've been racking my brain at work all day, and I'm at a dead end.

I have a Windows NT 4.0 server(BDC) and a Windows 2000 server(PDC) connected through a switch. I have tried everything to get the NT 4.0 server to talk to my new domain.

I would be grateful for any help,
Thankyou.

assuming you have coccret tcp/ip settings, can you ping each other? if not, check the hardware settings such as NIC, switch.

Hi, No I can't ping in either direction, and I've double checked the hardware settings.

can you run "ipconfig /all" from each machine and post the output here?

your first step is to ensure they can ping each other.

check for tcp/ip setup, firewalls and inappropriate routing information.

<marc> i wonder what will happen if i press this...[pc][ul][li]please give feedback on what works / what doesn't[/li][li]need some help? how to get a better answer: faq581-3339[/li][/ul]

Hi this is what "ipconfig /all" returned:

Windows 2000 Configuration

Host Name ..................: murphy
Primary DNS Suffix .........: HWCZOO1.local
Node Type ..................: Hybrid
IP Routing Enabled .........: No
WINS Proxy Enabled .........: No
DNS Suffix Search List......: HWCZOO1.local

Ethernet adapter Intel Fast Ethernet LAN Controller - Onboard:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix.:
Description....................:Intel(R) 8255x Based Network Connection

Physical Address...............: 00-06-5B-EE-6F-DE
DHCP Enabled ..................: No
IP Address ....................: 192.168.252.1
Subnet Mask ...................: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway ...............: 192.168.69.250
DNS Servers ...................: 192.168.252.1
Primary WINS Server ...........: 192.168.252.1

------------------------------------------------------------

I can't see all of the settings on the other server, but I'll give you what I can.

NT IP Configuration

DHCP Enabled ..................: No
IP Address ....................: 10.0.0.11
Subnet Mask ...................: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway ...............: 192.168.69.250
Primary WINS Server ...........: 192.168.252.1

I checked for firewall and setup problems. Any help would be great ,Thanks.

IP Address ....................: 192.168.252.1
Subnet Mask ...................: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway ...............: 192.168.69.250

if the subnet mask is REALLY supposed to be 255.255.255.0 then the default Gateway needs to be somewhere in 192.168.252.x somewhere. For THAT Gateway to work with that IP Address you would want a subnet mask like 255.255.0.0

IP Address ....................: 10.0.0.11
Subnet Mask ...................: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway ...............: 192.168.69.250

To the best of my knowledge NO subnet mask would let that Gateway work for that IP Address. Ever.

you could find Primary WINS Server ...........: 192.168.252.1 if you were somewhere on 192.168.252.x even without a functioning Gateway

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

Your 2 machines are on totally different networks, and you don't have a router between the 2 to route packets from one to the other. If only using a switch, you should have their IP addresses both set to 10.0.0.x (where x is different for each) with a gateway of 10.0.0.y, OR set both to 192.168.x.y, with the gateway on the same network.
