Hello All,
I recently had a Mitel 5000 system installed so we can take advantage of the TBCT feature available for the PRI line. I have the feature enabled with our phone carrier but am not too sure on how to make it work. I have a phone tree which prompts a user to press 1 to be transferred to a third party IVR. Once the customer presses 1, the call is programmed to dial a phantom which forwards the call to the outside number. The TBCT is not working with this setup, any suggestions on what to try? We only have one PRI and our CO does support this feature, just not sure how to make the transfer work correctly. Without this feature, all callers that want to be transferred to the IVR would take up 2 of our trunks. thank you greatly in advance.

I can't speak for the 5000 but on the 3300 the PRI must be NI-2.

The option is enabled in the the trunks COS

Simply works, not special actions required..

Thank you for the quick reply. I see in the ISDN Switch Type, its set to ATT 4ESS Custom. If I change this to National ISDN 2, would this kill the connection? Also, does the TBCT feature work by using a phanton extension that forwards the call to the third party. Thanks!!

I believe we did this years ago on a 5000. I think we needed Intelligent Router (CSM Component) to signal the carrier (hookflash). It's been too long for my memory, sorry.
Did have this in my notes though:

The Mitel 5000 supports the ISDN PRI Two B-Channel Transfer feature in version 3.0 and higher.

The Inter-Tel Axxess supports this feature in version 11.0 and higher.

The Inter-Tel Eclipse does not support this feature in any version.

Note: The TWO B TRANSFER feature is covered in the Telcordia specification GR2865CORE at Telcordia.com. The feature allows the CPE equipment to transfer a B-Channel call within the Central Office Exchange thus only using one B-channel to process the transfer. Then once the transfer is completed the B channel is release from the CPE equipment and then handled by the Exchange. The toll charges still apply for the call that is transferred until the connected parties terminate the call. This is similar to analog Centrex feature where using one voice path to transfer a call with within the Public Exchange by hook flashing. The ISDN process does not hook flash, but signals the information via the D-Channel to redirect the call.

4ess would already be an NI-2 varient.

Thank you all. I will open a ticket with Mitel to try and get this going. I hope we dont have to buy Intelligent Routing as well. Thanks again.

Hi KWBMitel,
You mentioned in your previous response that the feature does work for you. I was wondering if you can tell me how you are using that feature? Is it for individual users transferring calls out or for being used in a phone tree where users can press a number to be transferred out to a third party? Thanks for all the good info.

Again, my instance was with a 3300 so it may not be the same but I was using Embedded voicemail with transfer out to external numbers. Fully automated.

Application was a Game designer that launched a major MMO and people were calling head office for support instead of the published support lines. Suffice it to say the receptionist was overwhelmed. After implementing an auto-att with transfer options, things were much improved.

Thats exactly what I am trying to do. I dont think the feature is working. I tested it by calling in and having the other person transfer me to her cell phone and I can still see it taking up two trunks. Its not releasing back to the CO as it should. Its either a config somewhere or our carrier is not correct in telling me its active. Thanks!!
