hello all,
xp creates more than one (up to5 sometimes) language bar in the taskbar. Hovewer not visible all of these language bars, but when you right click taskbar and goto toolbars, you see more than one lanuage bar checked.

After you remove them, problem continues: unused and unnamed areas exist in the taskbar...

did you ever noticed such a problem??

thanks

baris

Double-click Regional and Language Options.
Click the Languages tab, and then click Details under "Text Services and Input Languages". This will give you access to the "Language Bar" tab where you can check your settings.

If you just want to turn off the Language bar right-click the Language bar (icon) on the Taskbar, and then click Close the Language bar.

306993 - HOW TO: Use the Language Bar in Windows XP

thanks but this is not the answer:

after closing all language bars, some unused areas exists in the taskbar. Or minimized programs becomes visible twice - say one explorer window is open but you see two windows in the taskbar.....

Try two of Kelly Theriot's fixes:

See Tip 240 at Kelly's site:
Programs Aren't Minimized in the Taskbar
tweaks.htm

(I know you can minimize, but this sorts other issues such as the minimized program appearing twice).

YES, I am experiencing the identical problem on 2 different XP boxes. This is not a configuration issue. it is a corruption or a serious bug in the XP Taskbar. I don't see Microsoft addressing it though.

Also...XP Tweaks and Taskbar Repair Tool doesn't fix this problem. The repair tool might help you clean up the taskbar, but the problem with soon return on the next boot or sooner.

Microsoft Office seems to give the Language bar a good workout compared to other programs, if your running that make sure it is fully updated.

I see this taskbar corruption independant of Office being run or the language bar even being use. It's presence alone is enough to cause multiples to apprear....I also get multiple application windows. I am running Office 2003 on both with and am fully updated.

Tell us more about "multiple application windows" is this on several machines? If you have the time can you outline briefly what steps you have tried to correct the problem (or link us to where you have detailed the problem elsewhere).

Perhaps faq60-4650

This is decidedly not normal behavior for XP.

I have 2 dells...one a 260GX desktop and the other a C640 notebook, both with XP fully updated. Both machines have the asian language pack and the IME installed. On both machines I usually get the langauage bar moving around on it's own, and when you unlock the taskbar, you see extra taskbar section...usually empty. When you drag the extra ones off the taskbar to remove them, usually one of then is an empty window with the title "langauge bar". Othertimes, I've had taskbar windows with duplicate data. Like I might have windows explorer open and two entries appear in separate windows in the taskbar. (I don't know if "windows" is the right term...taskbar segments is better maybe).

I'm sure this isn't how XP should behave, but I'm not the only one seeing this problem. Also, not many users actually have more than one langauage installed, and even fewer have the chinese IME running....so we're probably only talking 2-3% of all XP users....if that many. This problem is not easily reproducable and doesn't always occur. Sometimes you fix the taskbar by deleting extra windows and moving around others and it stays ok for a week or two. Then one day it's all screwed up again on bootup.

regarding the spyware faq...

I run Symantec AV 8.1 corp and I'm behind a firewall. Also I run spybot and adaware routinely. I see no correlation with this problem....ie, the problem doesn't go away on cleanup cycles....

one more thing....

both of these machines are dev boxes with allot of software installed.... VS.NET, VB6, IIS, SQL Server 2000, ArcGIS, ArcIMS, Macromedia MX suite, Office 2003, and many more... If I had to guess, I would bet the problem is related to some other software install.
