I want to run a backup routine that backs up incremetally 4 days a week and then fully 1 day.

I can't seem to stop it asking me to insert media even if the media is in place and so it doesn't run overnight but waits for me to come into the office and click OK (or YES!) in the morning.

How do I set it up so it looks after itself and I only have to remember to change tapes on Friday and Monday?

It should not be doing that...as long as you have it setup as a scheduled job to run it should work fine...a couple of things to check are:

when setting up your job make sure you set the correct time.it will default to now.

make sure it's not really running and your tape is full..if thats the case it will stop and ask for another tape.
Also make sure the days of the week are selected correctly.

if all these are correct, try running a full backup that overwrite the tape..just for one night. if that works then maybe something went wrong during the install.

hope this helps DVannoy

I agree with Dvannoy, First check the setup of your jobs, make sure that the Full is only running once a week, and the incl. 4 times a week. the jobs will just hang out and wait for another tape if the first one is full.
I do basically the same thing. I label my tapes week1, week2, week3, week4 and then a monthend tape. I keep the week tapes for a month, the monthend tapes for a year. I always erase the tapes before I start to use them. and I start my Full backup on Wednesday nite. then incl. (skipping Sat. & Sun) until the next Wednesday. I do the Full in middle of week, because then I do not have to worry about changing tapes on beginning or end of week. Due to holidays and 3 day week-ends. I am there for the tape change. If tape is filling up, check the way you have the jobs set up..
hope this helps..

One thing that had me going for a couple of days until I ferreted it out....check in your Backup Exec Assistant (under Tools) and check Backup Exec Setup for media overwrite-ablity. It should be set to (at least) Partial. If it's not, it will continue to prompt you to click OK to overwrite the media...

Hope that helps
