Pertinent information:
Arcserve 2000 SP 4
Windows 2000 SP 3
Tape Library StorageTek 9714
4 Quantum DLT7000 Tape drives
1 Cleaning tape
96 DLT7000 Tapes
1 Media Pool
Retain tapes in pool for 90 days

Problem:
Periodically a few tapes disappear from the media pool. Although I am not sure as to exactly when they disappear, it seems to be immediately after they are moved to the Save Set. So data is written to the tape and then it no longer appears in the media pool. However, if I look under ‘Devices,’ the tape is there.
-If I dismount and then mount the tapes, the missing tapes do not appear in the media pool.
-If I inventory the tapes, the missing tapes do not appear in the media pool.
-If I export and then import the tapes, they missing tapes do not appear in the media pool.
-If I go to the database and delete the missing tape from the media record, then inventory the tapes, the missing tapes appear in the option of tapes to add to the media pool. However, once I add them, they immediately disappear again.
-If I format the tapes, add the tapes to the media pool, then they stay there… for a while. But I also lose data by formatting the tapes.

Why do the tapes keep disappearing from the media pool?
How do I stop this behavior?

This is a known "feature" in ARCserve. The software designer (note: not end-user) thought it would be beneficial to only see Seq 1 of a save set instead of all tapes in the backup set.

To test this, manually move the backup set to the Scratch set and see if all the tapes are there (just don't forget to move them back).

Thanks! All the tapes showed up. That is a very annoying 'feature' though.
